Your rate card (₹ per message)
Default placeholders, not official prices. These figures are only approximately right for India. Verify them against Meta's official WhatsApp rate card(or your provider's price list) and edit them. Everything on this site uses this card.

What changed in WhatsApp Business API pricing in India
Indian shops, clinics and D2C brands that send order updates and answer customers on WhatsApp are seeing bills that no longer match their old estimates. Third-party guides report several changes for 2026. We have notverified them with Meta, so the calculator does not hard-code any of them; each one is a setting you control:
- From 1 October 2026, service replies beyond 1,000 free per month per phone number are charged.
- Utility messages sent inside the 24-hour customer service window became paid after 30 September 2026.
- India billing moved to INR, with accounts reportedly required to switch by 31 December 2026.
- The marketing rate rose on 1 January 2026.
- Meta reportedly stops delivering replies for accounts with no payment method.
Always check Meta's official pricing page and your provider's price list, then update the rate card. The tool records the date you last verified it.
How to use the WhatsApp cost calculator
- Check the rate card. It starts with placeholder prices in rupees. Replace them with the current figures from Meta or your provider and press "I checked these today".
- Enter one month of messages by category: marketing, utility (split into inside and outside the 24-hour window), authentication and service replies, plus how many WhatsApp numbers you use.
- Read the comparison. "Old rules" treats replies and in-window utility messages as free; "new rules" uses your rate card. The difference is what the rule change costs you.
- Toggle GST to see the amount before and after 18% tax.
- Share the link. Your numbers are kept in the URL, so you can send the exact estimate to a partner or accountant.
Worked example: a small online store
A store with one number sends, in a month, 3,000 marketing messages, 1,000 order updates outside the window, 2,000 order confirmations right after a customer messages,500 OTPs and 1,800 replies. With the default placeholder rates:
- Marketing: 3,000 × ₹0.88 = ₹2,640.00
- In-window utility, now charged: 2,000 × ₹0.125 = ₹250.00
- Replies above the free 1,000: 800 × ₹0.125 = ₹100.00
The monthly subtotal moves from ₹2,827.50 to ₹3,177.50; with 18% GST the total goes from ₹3,336.45 to ₹3,749.45, an increase of₹413.00 (12%). Most of that comes from confirmations that used to ride free inside the window.
How to lower the bill
Answer a customer's question in one complete reply instead of several short ones, use quick-reply buttons, keep reminder templates strictly transactional so they qualify as utility rather than marketing, and send broadcasts to engaged segments instead of the whole list. The spend tracker spots these patterns in your own export.
Free calculator vs provider dashboards
Meta's WhatsApp Manager and provider dashboards (AiSensy, Interakt, Wati and others) show what you have already spent on their platform. They are tied to that account and are not built to answer "what will next month cost if the rules change?". This calculator is neutral: it does not sell messaging, works with any provider's numbers, lets you plug in any rate card, and keeps everything on your device. It does not replace your invoice; use it to plan and to sanity-check bills.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a WhatsApp Business API message cost in India?
It depends on the category. As a rough guide (placeholders, not official): marketing around ₹0.88, utility and authentication around ₹0.125 per message. Meta publishes the official per-country rate card at developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp/pricing; providers such as AiSensy, Interakt or Wati may add their own markup.
Are replies to customers on the WhatsApp Business API still free?
Third-party guides report that from 1 October 2026 only the first 1,000 service replies per phone number per month are free and replies beyond that are charged. This calculator lets you set the allowance and the per-reply price yourself, so you can update it once you have confirmed the details with Meta or your provider.
Are utility messages inside the 24-hour customer service window free?
They used to be. Reports say utility templates sent inside the 24-hour window became paid after 30 September 2026. The rate card has a switch for this, unticked by default; tick it if Meta confirms they are still free for your account.
Is GST charged on WhatsApp Business API messages in India?
Indian businesses are generally charged 18% GST on these digital services. Use the GST switch to see totals with and without it, and check your actual Meta or provider invoice for how tax is applied to you.
Do I need to switch my WhatsApp billing currency to INR?
Reports say India billing is moving to INR and that accounts must switch by 31 December 2026. Check Billing in Meta Business Settings, or ask your provider if they bill you. Treat the date as unconfirmed until you see it from Meta.
What happens if my WhatsApp Business account has no payment method?
According to the same reports, Meta stops delivering replies for accounts with no payment method once replies become chargeable. Adding a card or payment method (or confirming your provider has one on file) avoids silent delivery failures.
Can I track my real WhatsApp spend from a CSV export?
Yes. The free spend tracker reads CSV exports from Meta WhatsApp Manager or providers like AiSensy, Interakt and Wati, lets you map the columns, and shows cost per day, category, template and number, with spike alerts and savings tips. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
